Here is a summary in one quote:

Some urged the ski patrol to accept a deal. Others blamed Horning. Brady Pitt, who runs the La Cocina de Luz restaurant with his wife, Sue, watched holiday sales fall 50%. “Whether or not Chuck realizes it or not,” he said, “there is so much dependent on him and the mountain.”
It's been a while since we last visited Telluride. It is in the middle of nowhere. The resort is the only thing that really draws people and money. It is a nice area. I also saw that the town and all the businesses are completely reliant on the ski area. It is a tough deal for both sides--Horning has to meet the demands of others, while those folks are all codependent on him. Not sustainable when there are challenges.

I am sure that the town would be pissed if the resort was sold to Vail or Alterra and then it gets over crowded.

And it least we now know what was going on with the offer that the two town officials made to him.

Conveniently left out of the article is that one of the two ladies (Prohaska) who tried to make the offer is a ski patroller and was part of the leadership team that initiated the strike. Also left out, she is the daughter of the prior owner of Telluride.

It is pretty hard to make a billionaire look like a victim, but somehow Telluride managed to do it.

Any rich guy who still drives an 18 year year old Volkswagen is my hero. Makes me want to buy him a beer, He probably drinks Bud or maybe even Coors!

You also want to force the two (former) mayors to read the entire Vail and Alterra Sucks threads as part of their plea deals. Grass isn't always greener...

Telluride could probably be on an epic or ikon pass and not have to deal with overcrowding. Its a hard 7 hours from the front range.

Plans in place for airport expansion:

"The Telluride Regional Airport is set to expand with new hangars, parking, and taxiways. As approved in the 2016 and 2024 Airport Master plans, these expansions will accommodate increased air traffic for private and commercial jets, as well as provide additional short- and long-term parking."

"The airport project is part of the Airport Master Plan, which would build a 40,000 square foot hangar that includes a lobby, office space, rental car services and storage."

Now all they need are a few hundred luxury condos/homes/restaurants/spas.

Who doesn't want to run into Oprah and Tom Cruise on the slopes.
