Anyone here ever done this stretch of the App Trail? Starts at Inn @ long trail near Pico, and ends up 22 miles later on VT12 in woodstock.

Just wondering if anyone here knew more than what I have here in the "50 hikes in VT" book I have here...(Green Mtn Club 6th edition).

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Too bad you didn't post this next year after I had moved been back in the WRJ area. I don't think this section is too exciting...

Have you looked at the GMC's Long Trail Guide? I mention this because they have a detailed section of the book dedicated to the AT from Pico to Hanover, NH.

Not really looking for excitement or a hard trek for that matter, just looking to get outdoors in the fresh air and get a bit of exercise...

I hiked that section last Wednesday and Thursday and really enjoyed it. The terrain is quite mellow, never reaching 3000 feet, and the ground is mostly soft. There are enough viewpoints to keep things interesting and the woods are very nice for most of the hike. Stony Brook Shelter, located a bit shy of the halfway point, is a good overnight spot. The brook was running fine.

On the first day you can get water at Gifford Woods SP and from the Ottauquechee River. It’s a bit scarcer on the second day so plan accordingly. I carried some extra and refilled at Wintturi Shelter.

The Lookout, a cabin with a small observation platform on the roof, makes a great lunch spot on day two. It’s well worth the short jaunt up its spur trail.

The parking lot on VT 12 is a little hard to spot. About 4 miles north of Woodstock, look for a dirt road on the left. It’s easy to miss because the lot is below the road grade. The stream running behind it is a great place to cool off at the end.

Found everything just fine....lookout was worth the short jaunt as you said...trip all in all went well. Stayed at Stony Brook first night. Terrain was mellow, but lots of up and down as to be expected. Did have "slight" troulbe spotting the parking on Rte 12 but found it nonetheless. next time im packing WAY less, but it was fun.....
