In the spirit of "how do I get rid of ___ out of my yard" threads, what other kinds of creatures do you guys have on your property?
We have a herd of deer that live on the ridge behind our house and come out to graze on our field, turkey, porcupines, milk snakes, bunny rabbits, and moles/mice etc. But what we saw last night takes the cake. There was a big arse bobcat sitting on our lawn at the edge of the field. Our cat got treed a few nites ago and I bet he was the culprit. Beautiful animal. Cat is staying indoors from now on whether he likes it or not!!! http://www.keepingtrack.org/

edit: to mods - there may have been a similar thread before...if so feel free to move/close/delete or whatever!

Yeah, they're pretty amazing. The best one that comes around has those long plastic gloves like horse vets use. Marc knows which ones. She also has a long stick with a nail on teh end- she'll whack bags to see if they clink, then rip them open withthe nail. I put our garbage out late at night after I know she's been around, because she doesn't spend much time being neat.

Sorry about the total threadjack, there.

This subject hit close to home, especially this week. I live in a suburb of Manhatan, about 5 miles outside of Manahatan. Right next to the Meadowlands, that's not the sports center but the track of untouched land in northern NJ. Plenty of wildlife to be found there. Lately we've had an issue with racoons. Now these little critters, along with possums and skunks and others, come throught the back yard all the time. Passin through at night is not an issue, what is an issue are our next door neighbors. It appears that a family of 9 racoons have setup a home in their garage and nothing has been done. I started complaining and they put ammonia soaked rags in the garage in an effort to drive them out and setup a trap in an effort to capture them. Well 2 days after they did this, my wife calls me at work to tell me that the cops are looking around the yard two houses down from us, figured the racoons were causing a problem. When I got home, I checked with those neighbors to see what was going on. It appears that the man from the house was cutting the grass and ran into a big snake. From the description it seems that it was a boa or a python, looks like someone lost a pet. Snake was never found.

Besides the typical long island animals coming and going (raccoons, opposoms, birds) we do have 3 strange cases.

We have an unusual amount of rabbits on the block. Lucky thought that my dog and the dogs on everyside of us generally keep them away from our yards.

They guy accross the street's turtle. He lost it last summer, we all thought it was gone, but I spotted it a few weeks ago in our yard. Tried to catch him but he got under the fence.

A huge ass birds next in the series of wires that come in on the corner of the house. Last year they nested on the bush right below. Back then no one went near that side of the house (vicious little peckers...pun intended)

In Binghamton, I have had deer, fox's and all sorts of stuff like that. But we also had a huge colony of skunks. I would always have to follow the dog out at night to keep her away from the gararge which one group lived in. Mice and rats lived in my last building and I'm so happy to be the hell out of there. 13 awful months.

The turtle out ran you? Not sure I'd be bragging about that one.

We have tons of bats. They live in our attic and come and go by the chimney flashing. We also have a large flock of mosquitos that will carry you away if you aren't carefull. Luckilly I have been drinking lots of beer lately and the extra weight that I have put on keeps them from actually carrying me.

Lol, that's one of the best and most creative excuses I've yet read for drinking beer.

Alright, to save my face, I will elaborate the turtle.. I saw him by the pool, he saw me and ran (and those bastards are fast). Went to go get my shoes because the turtle went thought what we call "Dog S*** Alley". By the time I got my shoes on, found the turtle again, etc. The turtle was halfway under the fence.
