getting a flat base w/correct base bevel = goto big resort

Hi skidbump,
My $.01 would be to take them to a well-known shop...@either Hunter or up in VT....along the Stowe access road (for example).

I have always had good results with Alpine Options at Sugarbush in Warren VT.

Don't trust a shop with a tune just because the boast about having a top of the line Wintergiser machine, becuase it also comes down to the grunt who sets the whole thing up, and runs the machine.

Ask arround, ask good skiers, especialy Ski Patrollers or Instructors because they put their gear through hell being out on the mountain every day, and having to ski through sketchy edge shredding conditions.

Also if you are into the thought of tuning your own skis, check out Tognar.com as they sell all the tools you would need, and offer lots of advice and how2 info.

It is pretty easy to prolong a shop tune, but if you want the very best "race quality" results learn how to do it yourself. It is possible to flatten out and true a base with hand tools, though it takes alot of skill and practice, (did somebody say rock skiis;-) )

Anyway good luck finding a good shop, you can also ask to see a pair of skiis they have tuned, if they take pride in their work, they should let you see a pai, they might even let you check them with winding stick.
