I showed up on time to work this morning. Shortly after arriving, the owner showed up and said we were free to leave. I worked one hour and left at 8. I hooked up with my buddy Dick and headed for Belle. White knuckle 4 hr drive. Tried to pull a van out of a ditch unsuccessfully. Almost ended up in one ourselves a couple times.
We pulled into Belle just before 2. I thought I was going to have to pay full price for a 2 hr ski. Dick has the ISKINY Gold card. We parked at the end of the line of cars after lapping the lot and determining the snow was too deep in the vacated lots we saw. As we walked to the lodge I scanned people leaving looking for day tickets on jackets. At first all I saw were season passes. Finally I came upon a guy with a ticket. I offered to buy it from him, he gave it to me free!Bonus! But to be honest, the final two hrs at Belle would've been worth every penny of the $54 I was expecting to pay.
The trek from the lodge to the base of the triple was strenuous. I started to climb it in my boots, but soon realized putting my skis on and side stepping was the way to go. I got on the triple and decided to get off at the mid station. Everything skied fantastically. There was exposed ice on some trails near the summit, but it was a non issue with so much snow nearby. The wind packed powder up top was carvy styrofoam that was almost as much fun as the two to three feet of snow below.
We poached the closed terrain Park a couple times for some fresh lines. I dipped into the trees a couple times, they were fabulous, with weird wind blown snow sculptures. You did have keep an eye out for wind exposed hazards, but again, tons of snow to turn on.
People had to shovel their cars out to leave, incredible.
Two hour ice beard and stash.
We got a room in Grand Gorge, skiing Platty tomorrow, expecting another awesome powder day. A little longer this time.
