Price seems a bit high but 3,000 acres is a lot.

That's hopefully good news given the prior owner wasn't exactly a great steward of the land.

A lot of people say it can't work because it's too far away. It's only a 20 minute longer drive there than it is to Sugarloaf or Saddleback from Boston. It just looks much further, but you can stay on the highway longer.

Given how crowded the more convenient areas are becoming, maybe it works. Having a home nearby on Moosehead would be pretty killer.

And with its location further north it will retain snow and have better snowmaking conditions. Makes the Balsam's location look like it is a hop and a skip from Boston.

$27M is more than double what Saddleback sold for and with similar acreage. It probably will take an equal amount to upgrade snowmaking, lifts and lodges. Fiscally, I'm not sure Saddleback is a financial success (although their regulars love it). It would seem that an investor would need to see more data on the success or failure of SB before diving into Big Moose.

The value of the lakefront property is a factor in the pricing of Big Moose.

Much more infrastructure money needed at big Moose than saddleback, but as mentioned above the raw real estate is worth more. Not sure if the convenance conveys that the ski area must be maintained.

I actually called them this week about the Cat skiing. I bought a 12 pack last season that I had to roll over. Not taking reservations until they have the snow pack. Hopefully I get to use it this season. It's not exactly a spur of the moment destination for most people.
