Althought this is a bit out of the "Alpine Zone", this might be of use to someone. We received nearly a foot and a half of snow Sunday night and Mon Morning. I was out on my snowshoes yesterday. It was truly awesome. The woods are loaded with snow. There's nothing like seeing a flock of Swans flying over a snow filled Cranberry Bog in the sun. There should be some great cross-country skiing for at least a couple of weeks once someone (hopefully me) starts putting down tracks. I imagine Blue Hills logged in some great skiing yesterday, too. :p

Another wiseguy

Certainly, we have some of the biggest dingalings posting on the web. Powder is powder and Blue Hills Monday would have been fantastic, especially if you can do a telemark turn. Futhermore, the reservation has to be some of the best urban cross and back country skiing in America. Then again, we have a crew of >>experts<< here i.e. those who don't know the difference between Klister and Gaiters. You won't find your stats will help you in the back-country, though.

There's an easy way to avoid the dingalings, beswift...

I wasn't denegrating Blue Hills. I spend a fair amount of time in the summer out there, but I don't cross country ski, so I can't speak to the backcountry options there. I do think the 309 feet is humorous, but the crew out there deserves a lot of credit for making it a viable business. If they were any further from Boston, I don't think they'd be able to survive.
I actually would like to head out there some weeknight, and had planned on going tonight, but other things have come up.

Actually I did think that you were serious about the skiing. The thing that many don't realize about the slope there would be that it does have a steep pitch. With good snow, you can have a lot of fun. There's two runs one straight down the mountain and the other a bona fide N.E. trail. I was invited to a Volkl demo there once for shop employees. The young kids blew it off, but I showed up. In fact I was the only one there excepting the rep. I demo'ld about thirty pairs of skiis if I demo'ld one that day. On a good powder day the trail can be a true blast. You'ld be surprised how much distance you can rack up as well if there is no line at the lift. It can be crouded, though. Every ski team in the greater Boston area tries to practice there afternoons. The best way to approach it would be to be there in the morning or a very cold evening. In that way you can avoid the dingalings.

Newspapers and Ski areas.

A season pass at the Blue Bump would cost you $249. The emphasis is on YOU Most of us down here don't pay to ski.
