BMC Speedfox SF01/Shimano XT Complete Bike
The BMC Speedfox SF01 XT 2013 Complete Mountain Bike wants nothing more than to play in the dirt. With five inches of travel, it has the efficiency of a race bike, with a bit of extra forgiveness for long rides and aggressive terrain. And with a Shimano XT build kit, and Fox suspension, you know it'll hold up its end of the deal.
The SF01 uses a triple-butted, hydroformed alloy tubeset. BMC's iSC (integrated Skeleton Concept) optimizes weight savings, strength, and ride characteristics by using Finite Elements Method (FEM) computer technology. Every 6000 series aluminum tube is shaped to exacting standards; what you get is a frame that reacts to rider inputs like power application, steering, and braking with impeccable efficiency and precision. BMC's extra attention to tube shape results in a frame that maximizes weight savings and stiffness.
Stroke is controlled using BMC's patented Advanced Pivot System rear suspension. It's essentially a mini-link rear suspension that creates a floating pivot. By positioning the floating pivot relative to the chainrings, the APS suspension maintains the efficient pedaling characteristic that world class riders demand from a high-performance trail bike. The Speedfox offers 120mm of rear wheel travel damped by a FOX FLOAT CTD shock. It's air sprung and has an external adjustment for rebound damping, as well as a three-position lever for adding low speed compression damping if needed on long climbs or mellower terrain.
The SF01 is runs on a full Shimano XT built kit, from the crisply shifting drivetrain, to the supremely powerful brakes. Suspension duties are handled by FOX's Evolution series, with a Float CTD rear shock, and a FLOAT CTD open-cartridge fork. Easton's EA70 lineup supplies the stem, handlebar, and seatpost, which is crowned with a Fi:zi'k saddle. The wheels are DT Swiss X1600's, wrapped in Schwalbe tires.
