2007-2008 Report # : 34
Trip Report: Day One of an incredible weekend. I had longed to ski with the Dawn Patrol...since it had been about a month. So I got up early at the place where I was housesitting and drove to Burke. Got to the mountain in about 45 minutes.
Found the original trailboss and the crew. The morning started off with a bang...Danny became a "one pole wonder" when he dropped his pole after loading. We did not let it go...
After we stormed down Willoughby and Lower Fox's, I witnessed the rescue mission:
We enjoyed fresh corduroy on the first few runs...amazing:
We also had quite a crew this morning...we rendezvoused on Powderhorn:
And I checked out an amazing Lew's Leap. Nice.
After a warm up, we hit an an Amazingly beautiful East Bowl. This is where it got interesting. To set the stage, the Trailbosses stormed ahead as the norm. Well, I took my spot in a very scenic spot and pulled out the camera. We here at AZ only deliver the finest in skiing photography. Well, the original trailboss came down the run and he was on fire. He came into the corner, went airborne and tried to correct, and hit the snow head first...somersaulting into me and taking me out. We had a re-enactment of sorts....with the original trailboss on the left, and me on the right:
Well, it was sort of like that....only the cute cheerleaders weren't there....the aftermath was a very deep hole in the trail from the original trailboss' impact:
Jokes aside, it was a serious crash...the impact shattered one of my poles in pretty good shape...we are lucky that the original trailboss is fine.
We did some more runs...doing Fox's Folly, Warren's Way, Dipper's, and Carriage Road before taking lunch.
The crew storms the Dippers:
Then in the afternoon I decided to hit the bumps and woods and went nuts. Using the Poma, I hit the Ledges, "Poma Woods," Doug's Drop at least twice because of the SWEET lines on Lower Doug's (ROTD), Jungle, Marshland, Little Chief, "Pocahontas," and Boarderline. I also hit Jungle and made sure that the powerline was alright. I also hit Y-Not, Caveman, and Throbulator. All the woods were amazing.....
