Here is the state's COVID guide

California ski resorts can no longer sell day-of ski tickets and must limit capacity on the mountain, according to new COVID guidance for ski resorts released Tuesday evening by state public health officials. Skiers and snowboarders must have a season pass, advanced reservation or a pre-purchased lift ticket to access resorts. Parking lots must also be limited to passholders or visitors who have a pre-purchased ticket or reservation.

The title of the article is misleading, since you can still buy single-day tickets in advance.

unclear, but i would assume you can buy day-of tickets online until they hit a certain capacity. why do they care if you bought it last night or this morning? as long as you bought it remotely and not at their window/ticket office
