Campagnolo Vento Reaction Wheelset - Clincher
Drawing on decades of Vento wheel designs, and over 75 years of fabled cycling heritage, the new Campagnolo Vento Reaction Clincher Wheelset is the latest chapter in the story of Campagnolo wheels. Featuring a a design that tested in the upper percentiles of Campagnolo's rigorous SHARC test (Smoothness, Handling, Aerodynamics, Reactivity, and Comfort), the Vento is just as ready for the criterium as it is for long mountain descents. Sure, the Vento delivers exceptional aerodynamics, rigidity, and stability, but at the end of our rides, we're more excited at owning a piece of cycling history than a mere wheelset.
Campagnolo's Vento Reaction Wheelset is the latest edititon in a historic lineage of Vento wheel designs. The newest edition owes its prestige to a 24mm rim depth that's balanced by a 20mm width. This is a profile that aids a bit into a headwind, but is still stable in crosswinds without stacking on grams. The spokes are double-butted aero stainless steel, straight-pull at the hub, with an exposed brass nipple at the rim for durability and noise reduction. Each wheel also utilizes Campagnolo's G3 Geometry that's attributable to the Vento's perfect spoke tension. Coupled with two of the proprietary Spoke Dynamic balancing spokes, the Vento lacing pattern increases transverse rigidity, which increases power transfer, while eliminating high velocity vibrations. To further increase stiffness, the wheelset features an oversized aluminum hub flange and body. This improved design increases torsional and lateral rigidity, which equates to direct reactivity when you break pace from the line for the final sprint.
The Vento Reaction's front wheel uses an aerodynamic 20 spoke lacing pattern, while the rear adds durability with 27 G3 rear spokes. The close grouping of three-spoke clusters further contributes to the wheelset's aerodynamics by being shielding them from drag on the both the drive and non-drive sides.
Campagnolo not only builds fast wheels, but a premium is also placed on durability. For years of service-free riding, the Vento uses sealed bearings on the front and rear. The rim sidewalls have been machined on the outside for consistent, safe braking. Campy also included its Eccentric-closure system quick-release skewers with the wheelset.The Campagnolo Vento Reaction Wheelset comes with a Campagnolo freehub body that accepts 9-, 10- or 11-speed cassettes.
