This $1 million investment will replace the historic East Double Chair which had run every winter since 1955 and was the oldest continuously running chairlift in America. Though it is hard to fathom the East Chair not being there anymore, we are excited for the increased uphill capacity and 300 feet of vertical that the Schneider Triple brings to the southern slopes of the resort. More runs and more turns … who can argue with that?

I haven't skied Cranmore; looking at the map it looks like this lift will dump on the summit like the others.

Lots of summit lifts at Cranmore!

I actually like the new configuration because it is easier to get to that area, especially from the main base area, and it looks like there are some new trails on the new map that just came out.

Is that an old map? There's at least 3 trails missing from it, unless they closed them up after only one season.

Yea, that is the old map. I think the new map is linked to from the thread on SJ. The new lift configuration really helps this trail pod with a lot more vertical and trail options. I think you can get to the new pod from the beginner area without taking the summit lift.

Here it is:

The existing double was really slow and worn out and didn't service much vertical. I only rode it once when I was there. The new trail pod is actually worth skiing and lapping.

Not much of a fan of Cranmore but this is a huge lift upgrade for them and makes that terrain much more usable.

You're right, looks like you can get to it from the South Quad now. Moving the lift looks like a very nice change. Before, you could only get to it from skiing the trails in East Bowl. Now, it opens up that trail pod all the way over to The Ledges, if you wanted to cut back to that lift. And, if I remember correctly, it opens up a nice little drop on the old lift lines. I seem to remember one of the towers being a little close to the landing area to make it really worthwhile. It has been a couple of seasons since I rode that lift, though.
