De Marchi Passo Gavia Jersey
For years, the Passo Gavia was the highest peak featured in the Giro, and its temperamental nature in spring has become a legendary nemesis for cyclists from Quintana in 2014 to Hampsten in 1988. Given its stature in cycling history, it may have been the easiest choice on De Marchi's list for inclusion in the Legends series. The Passo Gavia Jersey embodies its namesake's history in a retro-inspired piece of contemporary cycling kit.
Each entry in De Marchi's Legends line pays homage to the one of Italy's storied climbs with a nod to the colors of Italian clubs that have proven De Marchi's clothing on the road throughout the years. The Passo Gavia Jersey honors the Ciclisti Valtellinesi Club. In 1972, De Marchi designed a black and light blue kit for the club. You may recognize this color scheme, as half the peloton now wears it.
The material's micro-pore structure effectively wicks moisture and sits softly on your skin to keep you comfortable in the saddle whether you're recreating the epic feats of yesteryear's Italian champions or writing your own legend. Panels of it are combined according to De Marchi's Contour pattern, which incorporates specially shaped side panels mated with raglan sleeves to accommodate the forward orientation of arms and shoulders when in the riding position.
The quarter-length zipper incorporates a garage for a contemporary take on the two-button collars of the wool jerseys worn by Italian legends like the inimitable Fausto Coppi, whose mid-century exploits on the Passo Gavia are only some of the many legendary moments the climb has hosted. Three rear pockets provide enough room for material cycling goods, while the retro-styling and historical influence carry the spirit of cycling's past. If the striking color scheme isn't enough, then reflective elements help keep you visible in low-light conditions.
The De Marchi Passo Gavia Jersey is available in five sizes ranging from Small to XX-Large.
