So, Im looking, as the title says, for somewhere to stay in Stowe this upcoming week ( Sun - tues). I'm looking for the cheapest place i can find. In particular I'm looking for a ski hostel or dorm. I heard there used to be one or two places in Stowe. Basically just looking for a bed somewhere. Thanks for any recommendations.

Check out the AlpenRose..on the mountain road..I stayed there twice and both times off-season were $50 a night..really close to the mountain and about a mile from the Shed and Pie-casso..pretty sparten accomadations but it's a bed and a TV..

The old hostel is no longer operating..

Go, buy a ticket, hide in the cliff house bathroom when the lift closes, sleep on the rescue sled pads in the wool blanket in the ski patrol room. Bring coffee and a bagle or two, they have a cofee maker and a toaster oven.

They only do a few a year now., and there on saturdays. I bet you could hang out in the patrolers shack and noone would know.

Did they stop having dinner regularly because of the inadequate heating system? I worked at I believe it was called Bingham's one winter, but had to wait tables a few nights up at the Cliff House when they were short staffed. I recall one night when it was about zero outside and the dining room was about 50 degrees with the heat blasting. Customers were none to pleased with the dining conditions.

i remember having to do a few night shifts on the gondi and the guests where a little upset about the temps at the cliff. when the wind is blowing up there at night is just fuckin cold they should have done spay insulation when the built the resturant. i always thought the construction of the cliff was a shoddy for such an expossed building.

They stopped because it was impossible to plan and prep for an event and be sure the lift cold run on that specific night. They were pissing people off by having to cancel last minute due to wind....unless something has changes since last year....

Yeah yeah, i think ill stay away from the ski patrol room. The price is right, but the availability of booze isn't what im looking for. i'm figuring ill try and check into one of those places Prisnah posted.

Glad you got out of there alive. Any interesting interactions with the owner?

The owner of the Alpenrose is my homegirl..she and her husband are both nice people and if I ever need a room last minute it's a good place to go. The recreation path is right behind it and you can walk to PieCasso and The Shed..about 15-20 minutes..it's very quiet but I still prefer the area around the Town and Country and mini-mart the best because everything is right there..

I bet I'm thinking of the wrong place. It was a place called Romy's Alpen?. And I'm thinking it was Alpenhouse instead of Alpenrose. My mistake.
