Easton EA90 SL Road Wheel - Clincher

FRO.jpg

The EA90 is a long standing go-to wheelset for those that put a hurt on their wheels, and for this year, the Easton EA90 clincher wheel gets a facelift. It gets a wider, tubeless compatible rim, which will please anyone that's been paying attention to the recent development in rim shapes. But the rim isn't the only update, with the new Echo hubs finding their way into the heart of these wheels. The result is a bombproof wheelset that comes in under 1600 grams, making it both an ideal race wheelset for heavier riders, and a perfect training wheelset for anyone that's looking for a headache-free option. This version of the EA90 is a worthy successor to its renowned predecessor.
The EA90 wheel employs the latest revision of Easton's EA90 clincher rim. As in years past, it retains its light weight and Clydesdale-friendly robustness, while boosting the internal width to 17.5mm, for improved tire stability. The other significant advancement is that it's now compatible with road tubeless systems with the use of tubeless tape. At 25mm deep, it's fairly shallow, which makes it an excellent climber. The stiffness helps the EA90 hold tight to your line, which is especially noticeable during white knuckle descents. Easton's proprietary EA90 aluminum alloy is once again the choice for the extrusion, which is key to providing such a massive degree of strength from a wheelset that comes in at 1580 grams.
The EA90 SL wheels roll on Easton's new Echo hubs, which feature sealed cartridge bearings for smooth rolling. The Shimano compatible alloy freehub body keeps the weight to a minimum, and the oversized driveside hubshell stiffens the wheelset under acceleration, a trait which powerful riders will appreciate. Holding it all together are Sapim's excellent butted spokes. They're straight pull, which not only reduces weight, but makes them as strong and stiff as possible by eliminating the J bend found on traditional spokes. The storied racing heritage of Sapim's spokes spans the gamut of racing disciplines, which will instill confidence in even the biggest skeptic. There's 20 in the front wheel, and 24 out back, as opposed to the 16/20 count on the EA90 SLX wheelset. The result is maximum stiffness and extra durability for rough roads. And they're acoustically tuned using Easton's proprietary method, which takes into account not only the straightness in a truing stand, but a perfect balance of tension between each and every spoke. That ensures that they're perfectly true, and that they'll stay that way as long as physically possible.
The Easton EA90 SL wheel is sold individually as a front or rear, with a Shimano compatible freehub body.
