It's over. The sun is peaking through, the front is passed. The 9 day flood is done. Holland dam is gone. Brimfield dam is going. Southbridge and Lower Charlton are flooded. Auburn and Oxford are underwater and Rt. 20 is mostly closed. Some roads are gone in Monson. I-91 may be closed for days just south of Springfield. Many sections of Worcester are flooded. Those are just some reports from southern Worcester and southern Hampden counties.

Barre Plains under 3ft of water this AM...

Washouts on many roads.

Large standing (pond)puddles.

Just back from OEC refresher (National Ski Patrol First Aide) at Ski Ward in Shrewsbury.

Ski Ward parking lot has a river running through it. 1 + foot deep in many places. Small part passable but flooded in front of lodge. The small river running near that back of the lot in front of the lodge and under the other lots and exit is raging. If the level continues to rise it looks as if it may wash out the bridge from the main road into the areas lot. I would have taken pictures, but I didn't have my camera's batteries charged.

while i am sorry for the damage and destruction flooding waters cause, the upside of all this rain is that snow making ponds are likely pretty full by now.

The Metrowest Daily News (Framingham, MA) estimated that over the 9 days of rain the area west of Boston where I live received between 12-17" of rain. I know I've never seen anything like it. Thank goodness my house is on a small rise nowhere near a flood area.

Again, I'm not a scientist, but I'm pretty well convinced that global warming has to be creating all the crazy recent weather. I saw a report on Rueters the other day that said the warmest 4 years ever recorded have occured since 1998....

Check out these pictures taken Sunday morning at Tully Dam in Royalston. locatd in the obvious album "Fall Flood at Tully Lake. The lake level is still some 8-10 feet below the maximum sustained in 1987. Most of my favoite hiking trails are under water, some as much as 5+ feet. This is common in the spring when they hold snowmelt and spring rains back, but hardly ever in the fall. The dog and I tried to hike the lake loop Saturday (which prompted the photo session Sunday). We followed blazes until we came to the water's edge. There the blazes continued, but we could not. The boat launch in under some 12 feet of water. And the lake is only at 30% capacity. Simply amazing.

Haven't you ever heard any old timer's tell you about the floods of '55 or '27?

I hear about them all the time. Webster/Dudley/Putnam were very hard hit so it's probably better remember around here.
