Next time you're at the pump whining about gas prices, just be glad you don't have to fill one of these 58 gallon tanks up:

Also in snowcat news: Kassbohrer acquired Finnish snowcat manufacturer, Formatic, and is now producing the Formatic 350, a dang sexy machine if you ask me. Comes standard with sticks and center operator's seat, and a tri-flex tiller.

Impressive!

But if it ain't on tracks, I don't want the sticks

Sticks are sooo 90's. Most heavy equipment are controlled by a joystick. Not that I've been in a new snowcat but just say'n. It takes a experienced operator to run a set of sticks.

Never been in a snowcat that was directionally controlled by joystick. All track control is one of four things now:

Yoke (wimpy, IMHO)
Left armrest electronic sticks
Left armrest electronic paddles
Between-the-legs mechanical linkage

Blade control is joystick. Not tracks, though. Sticks are fun. I don't mind a yoke, but it's boring, IMO. Operated a dozer with joystick control, and didn't particularly like it when compared to sticks. My favorite is mechanical linkage sticks, because I feel like I have full and complete control (and therefore responsibility) for the ensuing motions of the machine.

Think your driveway is wide enough? Might plow a little yard as well!

Either way, I'd bet it would be done with the job pretty darn quick! And with the winch on that 600, I'd think that it's a pretty safe bet that there's not too many driveways out there that it couldn't handle ;)

Serious stoke!!!!..although Greg might ban you now..lol

I don't BS about it as much, but I think I'm as big if not a bigger bump supporter than he is. Mogulskiing.net??? Yep, I'm obsessed.

But guess what? I'm working as a groomer! There's a bit of a conflict of interest! Actually, I figure if I'm in the cat, I know exactly where the bumps AREN'T, and thus where not to ski. Besides, operating snowcats is an absolute blast. It can be demanding, intense, and even intimidating at times, but it beats the hell out of sitting in a cubicle, for example. Besides, 8 hour night shifts = 2-4 hours of skiing every day.

Heading back to VT for my CoOp... I'll be at Glen Ellen.

To answer your question... no! I won't let you give it a spin! But nice try...

Sounds like a very interesting job, that's for sure! :D It has to be one of the more exciting ones on the hill, anyway. WTG!

Actually I was going to say it looks pretty simple to operate. Real nice interior, looks comfy with good vis for the operater. I'm not an operater by any means but have done heavy haul for 30 years so I can just about move/haul anything. Good on ya for getting into grooming. Are those turbo'd 6 inline engines?

The Ohara 330 and 357 machines come standard with Cat C9 powerplants, 6 inline.

Ohara 430 ships with an inline 6 Cat C13 powerplant. 415hp. Quite a machine.

Prinoth Bison and BR-350 both sport a 6 inline Cat C9.

PB 200 comes with a 6 inline Benz OM 926, PB 400 has a 6 inline Cummins QSL 9, and PB 600 has a 6 inline Benz OM 460 (400hp).

Formatic 350 has a 6 inline Cummins QSL 9.

You won't find a snowcat that's not turbo anymore. Definitely a necessity at altitude, and comes in handy in any snow pushing and processing setting.
