from my MRG/Sugarbush trip last week. A detailed report will follow tonight, but this was a top 3 lifetime trip for me. My PSIA trees/steeps clinic at MRG on 3/1-2 could not have been better with 10" fresh on 3/1 and close to 2 feet on 3/2! We skiied trees everywhere! It was amazing!! Spent the last 2 days at Sugerbush-my wife got back on skis for the first time since our 2 1/2 year old James was born, and James got up on plastic skis and walked like a champ, then rode the chair up the beginner hill and came down screaming with laughter between my son David's legs. What a trip!

One story for now...went OB on 3/2 out to the 20th hole at MRG. It was our 4th or 5th time out there during the clinic, so I was getting familiar with the area and moved out much further to the right of the drop in zone to get some fresh snow. Stayed within shouting distance of the group and dropped into a small, steep slot between 2 logs only to catch a ski on some deadfall and flip about 5 yards downhill. Lost the ski and had to "swim" up to it in waist deep snow. Fortunately, a branch from the deadfall popped up and made finding my ski easy. Got it back on and then looked down my line down for the first time. We're talking 35 turns in steep, tree lined terrain in waist deep snow! Nailed it top to bottom making bomb proof turns with snow billowing over my shoulders and head.

This was true religion; not sure I've ever skied anything better :D :D .

D, I'm still flying from the adrenalin rushes. You know what I went through after my last trip to MRG. The tree shot where I fell and got hurt was a warmup run during this clinic. I didn't know PSIA gave this type of clinic and I'm signing up for it every year they have it at MRG from now on. We had a guide from MRG to show us all the good stuff.

What MRG borrowed from me physically 6 years ago it paid back in full with alot of interest this year.

Learned alot and feel alot more comfy in tight trees now. Got some compliments on my skiing and was one of the faster skiers in my group which surprised me a bit. I guess the whole experience cleaned my head out from 6 years ago.

Looking at the long range forecast it looks like winter is finally here, so I'm sure we will get to that Catskill BC when you return.

I was also at Mad River those two unbelievable days. That must have been you guys sessioning the cliff on liftline. Thanks for the show - I always love to see some carnage on a big powder day!

Yes, the Glen dished out the best turns a tree skier could ever hope for. It was hard to sleep tuesday night, knowing how good it was going to be. I set the alarm early, Hoovered my breakfast, and pounded my way over the gap - wheels spitting slush and gravel and the rear end getting broad around the switchbacks. Oh, the anticipation!

I was maybe the 20th spot in line. Near the top of the single, I began counting all the people I could see either on chute or on their way to cat bowl or antelope - and subtracting them from the number of tracks likely to be on paradise.

I could hardly contain myself, coming over the waterfall and seeing thigh deep freshies in all directions. When I had finished the run and the cold smoke cleared, i looked back up Paradise and gave thanks for the experience. With all the obligations we have in our lives, we just don't get opportunities to have runs like that very often. On wednesday, I had about eight of them!

A big Yahoo goes out to everyone who made it to the hill last week and skied every run like it was their last!

I can tell you were there! Paradise was great, as was Fall Line and the trees between the 2 (our guide Julius called it Fall-dise) were outstanding. 20th hole was the best though.

After two great days like that, I was happily spent.

Oh, and the madness at the tower 5 cliffs was really enjoyable to watch from the lift. There was so much snow it looked like fun, but our groups did not take the plunge. Frankly, I was so high from the skiing I would have tried it.

It was fun to meet you, Jim and your kids as well. They're going to be awesome skiers and have some great memories of time spent on the slopes with Dad. I'm happy the weather cooperated for you and am pretty envious of the great time you had blasting through all that OB powder.

Michael, we really had a great time. What a vacation and some of the best skiing I've ever had. There wasn't anything about this trip I could complain about.

You and Melinda have done a marvelous job with the Golden Lion and we enjoyed our accomodations. The Brookside apartment was perfect for my family of 5; the efficiency we moved to for the last 2 nights was a little small for us, but we're a close family and it was really cozy. The decor made up for the smaller size.

Snuck out to the hot tub twice after the kids went to bed. Everything was clean as my wife was quick to point out. She's a homebody and loved her stay, and she even got out and skiied at Sugarbush the last 2 days of the trip. We all had a blast.

The location of the Golden Lion is ideal, right on 100 across from the access road to Sugarbush. What else can I say other than I'm sure we will be back for another stay next season. Hopefully others from this forum will check you guys out, it is heartily recommended.

Thanks again for everything; we will see you guys again!

Ha, if you could guarantee the weather you would be the richest innkeeper in the world   !

We would never hold you to anything regarding weather, but keep on dancing, it just turned over to heavy snow here in NY.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Thanks for the kind comments, Jim. I only wish I could guarantee the same weather and conditions next year. I'll do my snow dance, but no guarantees. <g>
I think posting a URL to your property is reasonable here, especially as we have a positive first hand experience from another member. At a minimum, KingM, you should populate the Website field in your Profile so folks can check you out via the "www" button if they're interested...
