NEWRY, Maine -- Sunday River made the first snow of the winter season on the Broadway trail during the early morning hours of Saturday, Oct. 7 as overnight temperatures dipped into the high 20's. The location of the snowmaking is in clear view of the 280-yard North American Wife Carrying Championship course, which will host the 7th annual event at noon today as part of the weekend-long Fall Festival.
Sunday River's projected opening day is Friday, Nov. 10. Less than three days remain to purchase All For One season passes, which offer season-long access to Sunday River and Sugarloaf/USA in Maine, Killington, Mount Snow and Pico in Vermont, and Attitash in New Hampshire from $395. More information is available at www.sundayriver.com including photos of this morning's snowmaking.
The snowmaking represented a successful test of Sunday River's powerful snowmaking system, which will be fully unleashed in the coming weeks.
North American Wife Carrying Championship results will be released on Saturday afternoon.
