Nice! DHS I'm not used to seeing you without a beard.

Weather has cooled off since the start of August we've had a few awesome summer days. Heading out to fish again this week. Heat was brutal!

First time fresh-water fishing in a month. Gorgeous summer weather. Fishing was expectedly slow until the angle of the sun dropped. Caught some yellow perch and a few bass. Steve boated the fish of the day.

Not a bad day. I suspect mornings would be good as well.

I've boated all of my best fish this season at the EB and Bog Brook in Brewster. So, I convinced Steve to come north to the East Branch. His first time this season. Neither of us had high hopes for boating any decent bass, but we were happy to get out on the water. Since I rowed, I decided to troll with a suspending, jointed Rapala deep diver out along the eastern cove along the many points that drop off into the deep river channel there. We casted 5" senkos along the shore. We each boated a small bass. Trolling my suspending Rapala and stopping intermittently for us to cast was a perfect strategy for attracting a walleye to my lure which was my intention. After our third casting stop my lure got bumped by something so I reeled a bit and felt a decent weight on the line. I set the hook and reeled in a nice walleye.

That made my day. It's nice when it looks like I know what I'm doing out there! We then casted senkos on the way out of the cove along the railroad tracks and each boated a few keeper sized largemouths. Turned out to be a good day. I start expecting to catch big bass again once Labor Day arrives.

Conditions were similar to last week. Today, Steve rowed and was hell bent on hooking a walleye. We fished and trolled the same areas and caught nothing but small bass using worms and plugs. Trolling produced nothing. At sunset I suggested we go to the little island and cast plugs at the deep water side of the island facing the river channel I was trolling last week. My third cast with my Rapala I hooked a nice walleye; within 10 seconds of that Steve also hooked a nice walleye. And just like that the day was a success.

The pics make clear we were both enjoying our Appleton Estate between my squinty eyes and Steve's Leon Spinks imitation. A lot of casts for 2 nice fish but the effort makes the result even more special.
