The other problem with the plate glass windows is that they don't break like in the movies. That is some thick glass, and even if they were broken, they wouldn't be a viable egress as the remaining glass shards in the sill could be potentially lethal, especially with a panicked crowd behind you.

Yeah, well it depends on whether or not it was actually plate glass or tempered glass. Tempered glass will break easily enough with encouragment from a hard object and doesn't leave sharp or jagged edges. It's the kind of glass typically used for modern storefronts and side and back car windows.

Although I seem to recall that the full length windows in the front of this place being broken out and piles of people trying to escape at the same time and clogging them up.

True, although based on reports, I wouldn't be surprised if their windows weren't of the tempered variety.

Given where they were (next to the pool tables) and how big they were (easily 4'x6' each), they probably were tempered. If they were regular plate glass, a billiards ball jumping off the table or a butt end of a pool cue would easily break them. Of course, I wasn't a regular there, so I don't know if the windows broke frequently or not, just giving a semi-common sense POV.
