The agency also is marking some recreation sites such as campgrounds for possible closure, as it struggles to meet President Bush's proposal to cut its budget by 5.8 percent, to $4.07 billion.
everyone ready for WMNF to increase their fees? seems like all this budget cutting means the money has to come from somewhere else, that will be us the users of the national forests.

i have nothing against the selling off of unused buildings either pending they are not on national forest land. the larger issue that article points to is that the USFS is hard up for cash and getting crunched by a very aggressive budget.

When I first read the headline, I expected to learn that some large parcels would be sold. Glad that isn't so. Yes, budget cuts for the Forest Service might mean a small increase in user fees. I don't mind paying a bit more for the parking passes, it would bother me to see some of our 155 national parks loose acreage. I was hoping the USFS new 15 year Forest Plan would add acreage, as in Alternative # 3.

Maybe the BLM could start charging realistic grazing fees out west, and slide some of the extra cash to the USFS.
The USFS could also quit funding multi-million dollar outhouse projects that fail. Selling off unused buildings is rarely, if ever, a bad thing.
Failing all that, maybe an environmentally-conscious budget would be good.

& have my steak & beef prices go through the roof too? A couple of Texan's raise grazing fees??? (Oh wait, Cheney has a ranch in Wyoming)

Which emotion looks most like the Old Boy Network? maybe this

As Lee Iacocca once said regarding higher emission standards: "We've got to pause & ask ourselves: How much clean air do we need?"

Will this be before or after the Government pays Hailiburton the actual cost of nails, hammers, & only for meals that are actually serving in Iraq.....

I'm thinking 86 consecutive Red Sox World Series Championships are more likely

Can't wait to see how Dubya is going to make my retirement better tonight.
