BLANDFORD, Massachusetts — At the Springfield Ski Club's annual Senior Celebration, Jan. 20, 2006, veteran Club members suggested creating a fund in the name of Frank Caraleo, to help pay for the Club's newest addition – Peppermint Patty's Polar Xpress Carpet for Kids
Frank, a former President and long time member of the Springfield Ski Club, owner-operator of the Blandford Ski Area, passed away in 2005. The Club's elder members felt that, due to Caraleo's love of the Club and its wonderful ability to teach young families to ski; this would be the right thing to do to help create a lasting memory on the mountain for him.
Peppermint Patty's Polar Xpress is named after the Club's polar bear mascot, created by Blandford Snowsports Education Center SKI WITH ME Program Manager Lisa Masciadrelli. Peppermint Patty has been entertaining and encouraging kids from age 3 to ski, and more recently snowboard, since the bear's arrival on the mountain during the winter of 2002/03. The new lift is a sixty foot slowly moving carpet like you might see at a major airport terminal and replaces rugs that the kids used to walk up.
Donations may be made to the Frank Caraleo Carpet Fund, c/o Blandford Ski Area, PO Box 158, Blandford, MA 01008.
