Fulcrum Red Wind 50mm Wheelset - Clincher

ONECOL.jpg

All modern wheels look aerodynamic, following a trait that's dominated the industry for over a decade now. What separates the Fulcrum Red Wind 50mm Clincher from any other wheel with a carbon deep dish tacked on for an aerodynamic advantage is its laundry list of technologies. These technologies, as a whole, create an incredibly durable, lightweight, and responsive wheelset.
It's about the sum of the parts, and while the Red Wind has a carbon dish and aluminum rim like many price point wheels, the carbon's not just an aerodynamic add on. Fulcrum's exclusive coupling system between the aluminum braking surface, rim bed, and the carbon deep-section enhances the rims' overall stiffness and durability, while providing consistent and powerful braking.
The rim uses Fulcrum's MoMag system, which eliminates the need for spoke access holes on the upper bridge. To do this, they use a magnet to guide nipples to their respective location. The lack of spoke holes on the bridge eliminates stress risers and the need for rim tape, and enhances the rim's overall stiffness for better performance while accelerating, turning, or braking.
The rim also features Directional Rim Spoke Coupling (DRSC). It perfectly aligns the rim, spokes, and nipples to provide an equal tensioning value throughout the structure of the wheel. And, self-locking nipples prevent de-tensioning of the spokes.
Fulcrum uses a 2:1 spoke count on the rear wheel. This helps to reduce slacking of drive-side spokes during acceleration. The resulting lacing prevents loss of energy and lengthens the fatigue life of the wheel. The overall, structural-enhancing theme continues in the hub.
The aluminum hub body was already stiff, but Fulcrum felt they could enhance it further. The Red Wind's rear hub features an oversized flange on the drive side. This adds torsional rigidity, which directly translates into efficient power transfer. The hubs also use Fulcrum's Anti-Rotation System; the spoke and hub interface has been designed to create an un-movable whole to prevent loosening or twisting of the spokes.
The hubs house Fulcrum's Ultra Smooth Bearings (USB) which have proved to be 50 percent smoother than standard bearings. They're also lighter weight, and last longer. The Red Wind 50mm Clincher also uses 's Dynamic Balance. Two slightly larger diameter spoke opposite of the rim joint offset its weight for a perfectly balanced wheel. The Red Wind 50mm Clincher is available with either Campagnolo or Shimano/SRAM compatible freehub bodies.
