We're thinking of hitting Bromley this weekend. What's the easiest way to get there?

I was thinking exit 2 off of 91, to Rt30, then to Rt7.

But online, most of the directions online say:

From Hartford, CT
Take I-84 E / US-6 E toward Boston.
Merge onto I-91 N via Exit 51 toward Springfield. Take the US-5 N exit- Exit 6- toward VT-103.Turn Left onto Rockingham Rd / US-5 / Calvin Coolidge Memorial HWY. Continue to follow Rockingham Rd / US-5 / Calvin Coolidge Memorial Hwy. Rockingham Rd / US-5 / Calvin Coolidge Memorial Hwy becomes VT-103. Stay Straight to go onto S Main St / VT-11. Continue to follow VT-11 all the way to Bromley.

Thoughts?

Go with your 1st instincts. Rte 30 is the way to go IMHO. The stretch on I-91 between Exit 2 and Exit 6 for me atleast always seems like it take forever

i've tried both ways and honestly i think exit 6--->103--->11 is the fastest and certainly the easiest way to go.

besides, doing that route brings you past magic and your car may just make a left hand turn, magically, before londonderry.

Either way if you go to Route 7 you have passed Bromley.

I like I-91exit 2, Rt 30 for Bromley because you can stop at the Dam Diner, but I usually take 103 to 11 and go to Magic and stop at Jack's in Chester.

Oops! I should have put 30 to 11...not Rt7. :smash:

My home Mountain. I'd say exit 6 option but I don't travel that very often. The mountain is 100% open and has the best conditions of the season.

PS if there are High winds >15 MPH at the base Go to MAGIC. Bromley shuts down there Express Quad with high winds.

I'm not around this weeked or I'd give you the skinny on the awsome tree skiing there.

I'm hoping Sunday is a bit warmer (relatively speaking) and less windy.

Thanks for the tip on Magic. I've never been there...how's the skiing at Magic?

With enough Natural Snow. Majic has some very steep challenging terrain and i think the biggest hits in South VT. There snowmaking is not great so Natural Snow is key. The mountain has a lot of raw wild skiing. Trees and glades have little unbrush and fresh tracks in the tree are waiting for you. You just have to be adventurouse enough to look for them. Majic has 2 - 2 person chairs to the top.

The Good:
1) Glades and Trees Some of the best in south VT
2) Ropes are just a suggestion
3) Steep Terrain
4) Raw natural Skiing
5) not crowded
6) Snow Tubing for kids
7) Not effected by wind as much (Low lifts, many trees and Mountain Points NW)
8) Cheep Lift ticket
9) Little Grooming
10) You can Find Fresh tracks Days after a storm.

The Bad
1) Chair Lift Sucks
2) Need natural snow
3) Got New skiis? (ha ha ha not any more)

This is my alternate to Bromley. If Magic was closer to manchester and had a detachable chair it would be my home.

to each his own, but i would never want to see a high speed quad at magic.

i'd go for more snowmaking on the lower angle stuff to help them in the lean times and maybe on a few of the more conventional blacks for the same reason. but the slow doubles provide some recovery time.

although, in all honesty, with the incredibly limited traffic they see, even during great snow conditions, the main reason i wouldnt want a hsq is really a mute point. that being additional traffic on the trails. hell, you could have some kind of particle beam transporter from the base to the top and it still wouldnt change the character of the place. its just that deserted.

Same here! It wouldn't be the same and is totally unnecessary.

For the record they have a double and a triple, not two doubles and I don't think they do the snow tubing anymore.

Forgot to add that I would take do the exit 6 option if coming up 91.

The Black chair is technically a triple, but I don't think I've seen it loaded as such.

Regardless, it's redundant and does not turn the overwhelming majority of the time. Although it was nice to have it early last year.

Back to Bromley, I say exit 6.

Bromley Classic Tree lines:

With the Kids Right side of Spruce and Spring Fling

Also Go down thruway Look for a well used cut into the trees on the left side of trail. Follow all the way accross the mountain and just drop in on your designated Pow line.

Hardcore BC skiier off of run around at the top of the mountain is the entrance to the LONG TRAIL. Drops you to the north of the mountain onto a logging/Snowmobile trail 10 miles into the woods.

I don't know which route is better, but have you'll have fun if you go. We went one weekday last year and loved it. It's a real low key atmosphere, especially the parking lot shuttle, which consists of riding in the back of a pickup truck from the parking lot to the base area.:)

Thanks guys. I appreciate the input!

Yes, thank you all for posting. We were actually thinking along the same lines...Bromley or Magic for Monday. We're Mount Snow-ed out and want a change of scenery. Thanks!

FWIW, Magic won't be charging the holiday/weekend rate but rather the midweek rate of $39.

Bromley will give you $10 off your next weekend ticket with your MLK ticket.

We did the Bromley lift and lunch last year and that was pretty cool. You got a pretty damn good sit down lunch for $5 extra per person. I would have been happy with a greezy burger and soggy fries from the cafeter(dia)rea.

We hit Bromley today. Very interesting ride up 91 this AM...I'll detail it more in the TR.

The ride was worth it....they had a few inches of fresh today. Woohoo!
