The research's results are quite impressive. “In the worst thunderstorm, a motorist in a car traveling at around 20 MPH would notice an 80% [visibility] improvement,” John Tomkins, a Intel research engineer, explained. Overall, drivers would see a 70-80 percent reduction in visible precipitation with only about a 5 percent drop in overall lamp brightness

Yeah I think this is 10 + years away but this is an example of a technology that would very likely reduce accidents.

Agreed but I think it can be swamped by the amount and size of the precip type.

Yeah- I suppose in whiteout conditions, or in super heavy downpours, it doesn't make any difference how smart your headlights are.
Still the creative leap to think "Hey, we could do that" is pretty cool.
