I decided to get out today for a rip up at Hubbard. Steveo and a couple of other guys are always recommending it, and I can see the damn castle from my house.. may as well try to get something local in right? right.

Started at 4pm, went up to the half way house, I took some steeper routes that look like wash ways for heavy rains.. instead of the nice neat and smooth fire road. That made for an interesting start.

Past the halfway house I took the first right. HB up to the castle. Not a bad HB, initially your hiking up areas that you can definitely DH on, once you hit a couple spots where you know you would need to dismount DH, your about 60-70% up.

Popped out at the Castle parking lot. I was up here with the kids last week and I wanted to play around up top by the castle on the blue trail, but decided it was my first time on the Southington side.. so I would just get to it.

Headed to the towers, and blue trail down we go.

Not a bad ride, I enjoyed much of it, the scenery was very nice. I think I spent a bit too much time on the fire road.. there has to be more blue trail single track cliff side.

Called Steveo at the bottom for some quick insurance on my directions. Good quick bit of info from Steveo thanks bub !

No turning around.. kept on going and wrapped up at the car by 6pm. Good solid 2 hour run with a few stops for pictures and scenic lookouts.

The dreaded HB is 10 minutes, maybe 15 tops. Not that bad and to be honest, if your out riding for a workout, this doesn't exactly pass for resting.

I'd hit it again..

Oh - hot day so I wore no leg protection, just my arm guards( my right elbow is still swollen 2weeks later.. lol ) no falls.. good stuff.

did you get rained on? It was raining up in my neck of the woods pretty good from about 2:00 till 6:00.

I spent the afternoon installing a ceiling fan in my living room, I spent about 10 minutes in the attic installing a back box for the fan and felt like I was going to pass out. Had to be 110d up there. When I came down from the attic my hair, t-shirt and jeans were completly soaked with sweat.

I would have much rather been riding!!!!!!

Glad ya got out to Hubbard....Its definately not a place youd want to ride every week..but its fun and different...yea the HB sure makes it a workout!!! How was the section before you get to the gas line crossing?? It was washed out pretty good last week, like a washed out rutted out DH riverbed.. Did ya nail that last uphill scramble on the powerlines before ya head back into the woods??
