OMG I'm still smiling, hours later, sitting here in front of a cozy fire sipping my favorite bourbon (Knob Creek). Just as I had anticipated when I saw the deep freeze coming for a few days (finally) - the comparible-to-none Hunter snowmaking kicked in full force. Albeit manmade, a powpow day for sure. ROTD was huge bumps and great line skiers left of Cliff, to Bleek, to the soft pow/whales on Ike. POTD (poach of the day), which I wish I had found sooner, was top of Colonel's all the way down Claire's - pure silk! Guns were blazing on Racers later in afternoon too, so maybe all you weekend-warrior wanna-bees will get some good stuff too if the warmup later in week doesn't set things up too much...

Hey Shredder it was fun making some turns with you Monday. Wasn't so silky then, was it. How much smaller was the crowd today? A lot, I'd imagine. Greek was a bust, I didn't go. My son did, in the afternoon, he was not impressed. I was going to go last night, then I came to my senses, it was friggen cold. I was stoked all day, I checked their webcam and it was nuking. I was expecting at least eight inches. They only got a couple inches of fluff. Some guys did ski Snow Ridge, it wasn't open, they got maybe 10", looks like they had fun. http://www.nyskiblog.com/p/harvey-road-forum.html#nabble-td3630972 They were calling for 20+", wind shifted. We were supposed to get up to eight in Binghamton, flurries. We almost never get lake snow, too far south.

You didn't happen to find my Greek Peak season pass, did you? Lost it there Monday. I had it clipped to my pants because it was so warm Saturday and Sunday, I didn't wear my jacket. I was too lazy to put it back. The key ring I attached it to my pants with was still there, must have ripped. Probably lost it when I buzzed that A$$hole I told you about, it was on that side. Now I'm scared, hope he doesn't track me down. They're going to wack me $25. If I read their website correctly, they're going to charge the same if you forget your pass. That is way over the line, they used to just give you a day pass, I can see abusing this for getting your buddy a free pass. I never did it, no really, I never did. Last year they charged $3, now $25, BS. I expect to bend over a little for actually loosing my pass, even that irks me, but to charge me $25 because I left it home is insulting. That is another advantage of an RF pass, you can just keep it in your pocket. I'd probably loose that somewhere besides the hill.

Hunter is growing on me. The West pod looks like it'd be pretty sweet with some snow, what with the new lift and all. I'll have to make it up there at least one more time this year.
Thinking about hitting Elk Friday. It's one of their two Winterfest days. $25 lift tickets, demos. The main reason I'd go is to demo some skis. I'd rather burn a vacation day for a powder day, but it shouldn't be too bad, with the recent cold snap. I'm not expecting much to be open. What is should have a fresh coat of "snow". 42 degrees, partly cloudy, It'll feel like a heat wave. Sounds like you had a great day at Hunter with their new "snow".

How do you think conditions will be Sunday with the warmup followed by colder below freezing temps on Sunday? Hopefully they turn the guns on late Saturday into the night since it might be just cold enough.

Trying to decide if I should burn one of my Hunter bogos on Sunday, or save it and go to Plattekill or Windham with flex tickets. I'm gonna wait on Belleayre, they need more time to make snow.

I love Plattekill, but they've got about 2-3 runs open and aren't going to have more.

Website says it should be for the weekend (weather permitting).

Clairs was open today with excellent snow. Might be groomed out tomorrow? Should be great this weekend. Looks like they are trying to get Racers open as well.

PS the west side quad is awesome

Do you think they'll fire the guns overnight on Saturday? The low is around 20 degrees.

Monday should be good as well just a little firm in the morning..its only supposed to hit 30 Sunday so no big melt should occur...you have to work with what you get these days.

Cornhead - "Thinking about hitting Elk Friday" - If you have no already headed that way, I definitely recommend it. I was there last weekend. All the snow they laid down, skiied really welll. Not many ice patches which was surprising.. Drawback is the lack of terrain.. And it's crowded in the mornings..
