Resort or Ski Area: Hunter Mountain, NY

Conditions: Everything from powder to hardpack. No ice.

Trip Report:

Awesome day. Pulled up a little way from D lift around 9:45, was on the lift at 10. Longest line was around 11AM, when we waited all of about 2 minutes for the quad. F and Z were ski-on all day. Never rode B or C.

Now then, for the conditions report:

Minya, and ESD were in phenomenal shape all day, lots of nice snow everywhere. Lower Crossover was good as well, and Milky Way was a nice treat, open on natural? I hadn't heard of any snowmaking on it.
-Hellgate and Cliff got pretty slick, but were fine, Broadway was great, stay to the right of the fan guns though.
-The crossover to Kennedy is doable, ignore the closed sign.
-Kennedy and Madison Ave were both nice, Gun Hill, and Racers were a little slick but nice for going fast on. Ike has some bumps starting.
-Even Belt didn't get scraped off until late in the day, and Way Out was great. White Cloud had some very nice snow, although it's a bit thin at the turn.

Basically, you couldn't go wrong today. With no ice underneath, the slick stuff didn't even matter, and seeing this much open before December is amazing.

However. I would not suggest going to Hunter tomorrow or Sunday. With no snowmaking planned that I know of, it's going to get pretty slick and crowded...and the skill set of the people out there today wasn't too great...lots of people where they didn't belong.

Food seemed s***ty today and their credit card readers weren't working.

Also, for the poachers..White Cloud is great, Alternate looked good, but I didn't do it. K27 and Upper Crossover are probably doable with some rock skis. Saw someone come out of Heuga, from the look on their face, I wouldn't recommend it.

Now that you've read my far too long TR. Time for some pictures :-D

Nice pictures..and today was a nice day for skiing weatherwise..

Agreed on the weather. As a guess, I'd say it was a little below freezing at the peak, and probably 5 or 10 degrees warmer at the base. Not much wind except on the top section of Belt, and the sun made random appearances to soften things up throughout the day. :-D
