The Epic forum got me thinking about some of the technical aspect of skiing. Once I realized I gave away my college Physic text, I went to Amazon to look up a good physic textbook. I found “the Physic of Skiing” by Lind and Sanders, 2nd ed.
It has description, backed up with math on the physic of skiing, snow and equipment. Provides very good explanation on what forces and energy are involved in gliding, turns and carves. Of interest were the forces involved while skiing in the bumps and troughs; chap 5 and Technote 10. It gives good explanation of why certain body movements work in this terrain.
Overall, a good read, if you’re interested in why things work on the slope. However, you need a background in physics to get through the techno jargon.
