Rain

What's the weather like in the Northern Mtn's? If this trend continues, I am going to be in the salt water with my wetsuit early March. There won't be much of a spring skiing season.

Yeah, I was kinda shocked to see most of the snowpack had melted overnight. Let's hope this is it for the January thaw (did it ever really freeze?) and now we can get on with winter...

There was still a couple of inches in front of my house when I left this morning. The closer I got to work the less snow was on the ground... :(

This weather really sucks!!!

I woke several times in the night to the sound of rain. Both Clay Brook and the Mad River were bursting at their seams when I woke up. We had snow on the ground last night and zero when I woke.

Fortunately, we seem to have seen the last of it. It's currently snowing like crazy and the last hour has seen a change from bare ground to about 3/4 inch and it's coming down really hard. It's supposed to snow until noon and then flurries into the afternoon. At this rate we could have 3# here in the valley and maybe 5# on the mountain. Combined with the prolonged cold stretch we are entering, I see some reason for optimism.

It's amazing to see the steam from the sublimation out there. A couple of spots on the way into work traffic came to a screeching halt cause it was so thick.

Hey, at least I won't have to shovel my driveway... which I never got around to after the last storm!

-Stephen

P.S. Shouldn't we call this the Official 1/13-14 Anti-Storm Event Thread?

It was very difficult to see the road on my way home from work last night, had to slow to a crawl a few times. It took me closer to 45 minutes to get home instead of the ussual 25-30.

Its still a storm, just the wrong kind. It was down pouring really hard when I left for work this morning.

It is supposed to freeze tonight so if your snow is wet and the cover is already icy, I would temper your optimism at least for the rest of the weekend. If they can blow snow going forward and we see some natural, the season might not end that badly. Warm temperatures (above 0 F) often mean more snow. However, I don't expect much natural ice for skating this year. It's very windy today on the Cape and I'm sure the Windsurfer with Dry Suits are out enjoying it.
