Resort or Ski Area: Jay Peak, VT

Conditions: tracked and packed powder, bluebird skies

Trip Report:

First time at Jay Peak on Saturday. We stayed down in Stowe, where we skied on Sunday, and drove up to Jay on Saturday morning. Cool drive -- that place is in the middle of nowhere.

Beautiful day...bright blue skies, crisp and cold, without much wind:

We spent a good chunk of the day in Jay's revered woods. Probably our favorites were the Beaver Pond/Andre's Paradise woods, especially early in the day near the boundary line:

Also enjoyed Everglade, Valhalla, and some of the lower angle woods under the Bonnie Quad (which was the only lift without fairly significant lines most of the day).

Only waited in line for the Tram once(never been a big fan of gondolas and trams, especially trams packed with sweaty french canadians ) , but the views were pretty killer from the top:

In addition to the trees, some of the narrower, more protected trails were skiing nicely. Here's Poma Line:

and Power Line:

We also took time to enjoy Jay's unique cross-cultural experience:

Great day at a fun, unique mountain. Not sure how often we'll make it back there, but I'm definitely glad we checked it out.

Jay IS Shangri-La

I found that place 5 years ago, I make 2 pilgrimages a year there now. It truly is the most ferocious mountain in the Northeast. Trees, steeps, secret stashes anywhere u care to scratch the surface. I wish I could move there!
