Jay Peak advice requested.

1. Is there a lodge for my non-skier wife to hang out in while I ski?

2. Where is the closest decent place/area to stay if you don’t stay on the property?

3. What’s the parking situation for day-trippers?

It seems that to stay on the resort you have to either buy a ski/stay package or a water-park package. It’d be fine if we got two vouchers for ski tickets that could be used on different days but I doubt that’ll be the case.

Thank you!

1. there are two base areas - stateside and tramside. both have good day facilities, but tramside is likely more comfortable and entertaining for her. stateside sort of your typical ski lodge with a bar. tramside newer and more modern but also has an old school lodge area too.

2. slim pickings. some places in the town of montgomery. some places in newport or near burke if you dont mind a drive. airbnbs.

3. ample parking at both bases.

fwiw, the ski and stay packages in my recollection/experience are a good deal even if you dont plan to use the waterpark stuff, especially with the lack of lodging nearby. ive never been upset to wakeup in the stateside hotel on a powder day.

There are lodge's on both sides. Tramside is probably going to be a nicer place for her to hang out just for the sake of variety.

There are no real great off mountain places to stay other than airbnbs, which are crappy deals for the most part pricewise compared to staying on mountain.

Plenty of parking. I rally up there 20-30 times a year, almost exclusively on pow days so high volume of skiers, and never had an issue parking. Tramside has covered parking even.

Since I have a pass and my wife doesn't (she doesn't get the time off work I do to justify one), we have asked nicely and they will let her use the vouchers herself on both days. I think its technically outside of policy but ask nicely and they might hook that up for you. Otherwise, its still a good deal. They basically give you lift tix for free when you book a room.

Anyone ever stay at the Island Pond Country Inn in Newport? gets an 8.2 on expedia.
I've never been there, but whatever is telling you it's in Newport is very wrong.

As the name suggests, it's on....Island Pond in Brighton. Which is over an hour from Jay and pretty much the middle of nowhere, especially in winter.

The village is also infamously associated with a cult that still appears to be operating businesses there. Don't know who owns the inn, but you may want to investigate if the inn is tied to it before spending your money there.

I stay at the Stateside and never buy one of their packages since I have an Indy Pass. They always try to get you to buy a package. Last year the salesperson said I had to buy a lift/waterpark package or I couldn't stay there. I called back and got a different salesperson and had no problem. The bars and restaurants onsite are actually not bad but there's not much to do if you are not skiing. The surrounding area is kind of quiet but the mountain itself is sick. You should go and tell the wife to bring some books.

The online reservation system won't allow you to book a room without buying a 'package'. I emailed them and was told they don't do any room reservations in the winter without a package, But I thought I saw 'room only' on Expedia.....I wonder if they bolt on resort charges once you get there if you book with an outside entity.

I skied there many years ago but I think I'll go elsewhere....

I already booked the Stateside for March. No package. I called them and got a person on the phone to make the reservation.
