Roger Hills forecast:
Most people would cringe at the prospect of snow but we're kinda thrilled (CLICK THROUGH to see Roger's latest report). So happy, in fact, that we're going to open for an extended weekend. Lifts will start turning again on Thursday and we'll be open through Sunday.
Roger Hills forecast:
Monday, April 26th.
Very late season snow storm appears to be on track starting late Monday night into late Wednesday…
At the top of the mountain, based on several different computer model runs, I would not be surprised to see anywhere from 8 to 14” having accrued with about 3 to 7” on the lowest 1/3rd of the slope. There could be even more snow at the summit!
This snowfall will be very wet especially at first. Wet snowfalls can cause utility outages where the Velcro like snows can weigh down onto tree limbs. But die hard skiers and snow boarders look to have plenty to play in over the course of this week in this particularly strong spring cyclone.
The heaviest snows will come Tuesday into Tuesday night from an up sloping condition with a moderate flow from the north-northwest. This storm system is the same one that produced tornadic thunderstorms in parts of the south early in the weekend and severe thunderstorms for the mid Atlantic Sunday.
The snow level is aided by the unusual push of a batch modified arctic air coming right off of interior Greenland via the Davis straits and northern Labrador. This unusually cold air mass is being pulled southwestward by very strong jet stream carving out a large eastern Canadian trough of lower pressure.
Cold shots of air are not unusual even this late in the season, but the amount of moisture that could fall in this particular storm system is. Thus we are looking fair amount precipitation.
