I totally agree.

I still don't know what I want to be when I "grow up" and I turned 30 yesterday. My old English professor claimed that locksmithing was the way to go after she got locked out of her house and had a lengthy conversation with the man who got her back into it. Apparently, it's a dying trade. But unless you love what you do, you'll be miserable the rest of your life and no amount of money is worth that. I've been there, it sucks.

Couldn't agree more, Sev. I'm 25 and have no idea where I want to be in 5 years. Got a BS and did the Corporate thing because it was a "sure bet". Totally miserable. Going back for another degree in Fine Arts right now. Don't know where it will take me but I'm not worrying about it. I've learned the hard way that being happy is much more important than two homes and a boat.

Indeed... Brand X or early Genesis... Phils jazz chops are solid... Mans got skillz behind the kit... Live recordings of early Genesis blow my mind...

D you didn't disapoint me. I knew I could draw you out with that one. (Now I have "Nightmare patrol" stuck in my head.)

How ever you learn that is irrelevant...most folks never do.

And there are no sure bets...or free lunches.

Doing and learning new things is energizing. After a week or two of talking to my friends I've learned most of them have been/are going through it.

I spent last week home with my kids and learned what my wife goes through. I thought I knew, but I didn't.
Bonus points for relationship building.

I'm working out regularly again. Good, I'm dripping sweat sessions. I've lost 7 pounds in the past 4 weeks.
Health benefits.

I'm learning again that smart people are in demand. Doesn't matter what the economy is doing. Lot's of jobs and opportunities out there, especially this time of year. After posting my resume in a few places I've gotten 3 calls and my first interview is Monday. All the "crap" is over; you know, the inevitable "what an asshole" anger stuff. I budgeted time off for it. Like when I felt that way I would put my waders on and catch a few trout in my backyard stream. And go on with my day.
My head is right.

Or, I could have farted around the past week and a half at my old job.

Easy choice.

There's actually a shortage of airline pilots now, lots of retirements with the mandatory retirement age of 60, plus record numbers of passengers. It's usually a big investment to get the necessary licenses and flight time to get hired though. Obviously not very recession proof.
