Big Sky is looking mighty fine these days, and we are so grateful for the terrain open to us! Those of you who are visiting have chosen wisely; with over 3,000 acres of skiable terrain, take your pick! And your pick includes runs off the peak - that's right - big mountain skiing open to us right here at Big Sky Resort. Frequency Sky Card holders, we expect some quality time with you this week as you ski for half price. There's lots going on today...keep your eyes peeled for the fashion show, Warren Miller's movie in the amphitheater, live music, pottery, and more. As more acreage was added to our terrain yesterday, do expect the number to go up again today, so be sure to contact Guest Services at 406-995-5749 for information on trails and lifts throughout the day.

I'll be there end of Feb but it sounds like they aren't doing too bad..considering.

And Silverton's report looks Ok, 100% open just not deep...

This. Looks like you've been reading (or maybe seeing if you know meterology) the same things I have. Bastardi has been tweeting this and there are others who feel this way as well. This pattern has been with us for a long time and that IMO raises the chances of it changing sooner rather then later. 2006/2007 replay? That was an a great spring IIRC. It would make you forget about Dec 2011 quickly. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

I and everyone else I've met here watching it like a hawk. At this point not looking for a record year, just some snow for both play and business.

The short answer is "no". If you want to dig deeper into the percentage of trails open, percentage of acreage open or however you rate the amount of open ski-able terrain you could say some are doing better than others. Snow preservation through resurfacing with snow making and grooming might be another way to pick which areas are the best to visit. Bottom line, no place is doing "well".

not so... alyeska doing great, 350 inches so far. tons of pow days there already... then again they always have pow....

We're hitting Big Sky in mid - February. It appears that they have almost everything open except the chutes off the face of Lone Peak. They just started a promo for Epic pass holders to come up and ski for free. No word if that extends to their Boyne New England Pass holders too.

Steamboat - which is northern CO - has a lot open, but it look thin. And that's too bad cus the tree skiing is soooooo good there. I don't think their Pony Express area is open either. Not sure about their back side - Morningside - which is a blast on a powder day.

Tahoe got more snow in Jun of 2011 then they did in Dec.

But things can change fast there. All it takes is 1 storm in the Sierra and it could dump 3 to 6 feet of snow at once. So dont cancel your Tahoe trips until the last minute. Because unlike the Northeast the Sierra doesnt need the slow build up and conditions can change incredibly fast there.

I got friends doing to Park City MLK weekend. I was going to buy a last minute ticket to SLC to join them but since they are barely 50% open I figured its not worth it.

(I got a newborn at home and need to make my ski days count this year)

The closer we get to the 15th, the more it looks like big things will start happening.
