LAKE PLACID, New York -- Looking to take your family on an affordable ski vacation to one of the top winter wonderlands in the United States? Why not pack them up and head to Lake Placid, N.Y. The two-time Olympic village was recently chosen by Ski.com as one of the 2010 most affordable ski resorts,' as well as a top-10 winter wonderland by TripAdvisor.com.
According to Ski.com, there are great values to be had when skiing in the East. The article describes Lake Placid as a place that "offers lots of lodging options, a charming picture-postcard town with great restaurants and a $29 Olympic passport that offers admission to all the venues built for the Olympic games that were held in Lake Placid." Lake Placid has played host to two Olympic Winter Games, 1932 and 1980.
TripAdvisor.com ranked Lake Placid ninth on its top-10 list, joining Lake Tahoe, Calif. (#10); Big Ski, Mont. (#8 ); Telluride, Colo. (#7); Stowe, Vt. (#6); Park City, Utah (#5); Jackson, Wyo. (#4); Canadian Rockies, Canada (#3) and Aspen, Colo. (#2). Quebec City, Canada topped the list.
"This is a tremendous tribute for Lake Placid and it continues to strengthen what we do and what we're about," stated Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) president and CEO Ted Blazer. "In today's economy, families are looking for value, but at the same time memories and experiences that will last a lifetime...they're able to find that here. This kind of publicity will only help to bring more visitors to the region and our venues."
Earlier this year, Lake Placid was also named to the Top Five Resorts in the East in SKI Magazine's Reader Resort Survey 2010. Ski Magazine also put Lake Placid number-one in the nation for Off-Hill Activities for the 17th straight year.
