Going to Big Sky this year. I need some recommendations for lodging. I will be renting a car and there will be two of us. We would like to stay cheap since we only use it for a place to sleep. The lodging on mountain looks pricey. Any suggestion? There is a place down the road that was a Comfort Inn, I think. Anyone stay there?
My buddy and I would like to stay below 250 a night.

I haven't stayed at the Comfort Inn, but we stayed in the condos on the mountain 6 years ago for a family trip with my ILs (my FIL had a friend who let us use his condo). It was late May, so it wasn't a ski trip. The Comfort Inn was probably 15 minutes down the mountain... not too far. The only thing you want to keep in mind is Big Sky is out in the middle of nowhere. There's a convenience store in the gas station at the bottom of the mountain, there were some cafes, but nothing is really cheap because of how isolated it is. The grocery store is back by the airport in Bozeman, which is like 45 minutes away. The next real town we found was West Yellowstone, which was also a good drive away.

That said, if the price is right, you won't be far away at the Comfort Inn. I'd rather save money on lodging so you could spend it on skiing. A bed is a bed, right?

Yes. That is why we stay cheap. A bed and hot tub is it. There are restaurants at the mountain. Correct?

There are a few. We went to a bar down the road from Comfort Inn (off the mountain) that was kind of interesting. Lots of dead animals decorating the place. There was also a nice pub/restaurant at the bottom of the mountain. AT the time, there was a newer plaza going in so there's probably more available now. Near the gas station at the bottom was a nice cafe for breakfast before heading up the mountain. Again, nothing cheap (no fast food, for example). But that's to be expected near a major ski resort.

When you going to BigSky?

I'll be there for ESA plus a few extra days end of March, beginning of April.

I haven't been there before and am very excited to experience Big Sky!

My buddy and I usually go west at the end of Feb thru beginning March. It is not definite at this time. We usually book at the end of January. It depends on my son's hockey and if they make the state tournament. I try and miss only one game. He may come with us this year if the team does not make it but they have made it, the last six years. He is a senior this year and he could miss a couple of days.

You may want to consider looking at what is available at VRBO for places to stay. I elected to stay in Bozeman versus on the mountain. If it is a snow day head to the Bridget Bowl.

VRBO??? The drive from Bozeman to Big Sky is a solid hour..it's a scenic drive through Gallatin canyon but can be very hairy. For about $250 a night..I imagine you and your buddy can score a room at the Huntley lodge..and then you can boot up right in your room. Big Sky is very remote and doesn't have the vast lodging options of other resorts out west. I'd also look into staying at Moonlight basin..you can ski over to Big Sky from Moonlight..If you have the time..definitely hit up Bridger bowl for a day..for this season they are expanding their terrain with a new lift on the South side of the resort. There is a small market in the meadows area of Big Sky below the mountain..definitely eat dinner one night at Bucks T-4 steakhouse..you can get a great steak or wild game. PM me if you want any advice on where to ski at Big Sky..I spent two seasons living in Bozeman and skied at Big Sky quite a bit..it's a huge mountain..,

It's been 10 years since I was at Big Sky, but I do recall scoring relatively inexpensive condo lodging in the groups of condos on the hillside across from the base area. We did book it through www.vrbo.com. Three guys shared a 2 BR condo that had a hot-tub right in the unit. We took a shuttle from Bozeman right to the condo.

There was a supermarket on the resort shuttle route, but it was at least 15-20min on the bus in each direction. Restaurants were sparse-we were there a week and wound up doing at least one repeat after having hit every place in the mountain base area.

The Hundley Lodge was very nice, very fancy. There is/was a restaurant in there that we didn't go to.

Wnat about the Big Couloir, this is what I want to hit.

You need a partner and you need to sign in with Ski Patrol at the top of the tram...I never had the balls to ski it..a lot of exposure at the one dogleg..

The second video is mellower but still advanced terrain from the top of the terrain..about 2500+ vert of sustained vert off the backside in what looks like Liberty Bowl based on the views of the Yellowstone club below in the background..I miss Montana..Big Sky and Bridger bowl..big time..

And a beacon. I will have a buddy with me. Hopefully he will do it. He has followed me everywhere at JHMR and Alta/Snowbird.

When you make the change from Eastern time to Mountain what's the big deal with driving an hour in the morning? If the drive looks hairy because of snow slither up to the Bridegr Bowl. Bozeman has some great brew pubs and restaurntswhich is an alternative to a hot tub pickle fest.

If I'm on a ski trip...I'd rather not have to drive an hour to start the day and an hour back at the end of the ski day. If I was going on a ski trip to Big Sky...I'd stay in Big Sky..not Bozeman.

BTW Talisman..learn how to quote..I quoted your post and it says I wrote it???
