I had the time of my life with my family here last weekend. Every trail was open. The whole family fell in love with the place. I can see a seasonal rental here or purchase next year but I am unsure of the commute.

Places like Loon (I am in Worcester MA) are much more convenient but I don't think the skiing is comparable. I will actually be heading to Loon sometime next week to see how it fairs against SR (the past two years I skied there it was ice). Who is making the trek to SR every weekend, and do you find it totally worth the haul?

Thanks

I do.

Have done Loon every week in previous years.(8 year span) Next year there will be a Loon Sunday river and sugaloaf pass. I plan on hitting Loon a few times on the way up and the way back. The ride does wear especailly on bad weather days. Loon gets a bad reputaion. Once you understand what it is... its fine.

You probably have another 1.hour on top of what I do. I chose Loon cause of Location.

I have chosen Sudnay River, casue its a better place.

See how you kids feel after a few weekends of the ride. At a young age the Loon commute made it really easy for us. I skied Sunday river out a Loon quite a bit 1.40 A decent amount of day trips. Not bad.

If I had to do it all over again. I would do it the same way. The kids are older and can handle the ride better and so can their parents.

One advantage of Loon is you can get home and back if you need to. We had to do that quite a bit with kids sports. Sometimes one night and one day is all you can get. Going to Loon made than an easier choice. Ohter part is is weather is bad you can leave Monday and not be real late or as I did it not have to get up very very early.

I perfer the southern whites over Maine in the summer. How much summer travel do you plan to do up there?

Ga2ski is a great source. He is further north than me, but has been doing the river Ride alot Longer.

Bob R and the SR crew are definitely the experts on this topic. I don't own a condo so I can't comment on that but I do know the commute fairly well. I have a pass so I've driven up a few times this year all day trips. That's about as far as I'll go for a day trip but if I had a condo there I don't think the ride would be bad at all. I don't think the extra 45min-1hr drive time would be that bad if you're staying for the weekend. Especially if you like the area that much.
