Looking for VT cell phone recommendations

I live in Vermont and my cell phone service STINKS! I'm using Verizon, but I think it's time for a change. Any other Vermonters here using another carrier with good -- or even fairly good -- results?

I've had ATT for years and normally have much better cell coverage in VT than friends with Verizon. Not sure that is true everywhere in VT.

Let me just put it this way: Looks like I'll never get rid of my land line.

We thought: "Oh, we don't need a landline...we'll use our cellphones!" Our place up there is in a 500 foot deadzone.

ATT seems to have pretty good coverage in southern VT. It improved quite a bit at the begining of 2009.

The way it worked was:
Verizon Wireless bought Rural Cellular Corp. That included the Unicell brand in Vermont.

The FCC required Verizon Wireless to sell off some of RCC in markets that wouldn't otherwise be competitive. Verizon ended up doing an asset swap with AT&T for some regions where AT&T had the same requirement to get rid of some assets.

In my travel pattern, both AT&T and Verizon Wireless have adequate coverage. Work gave me a Sprint Blackberry. That works at Killington but is useless anywhere east, south, or north of Killington. T-Mobile is pretty much the same.

+1, but only because we virtually had no choice. Service is probably a 6 on the scale of 1-10. We all wish Waitsfield Telecom were running a cell service option, but they have no plans to do so.
