Well, I recently found out that there are some fellow deadheads running around these parts. Can I push the envelope one more time and see if there are any Macheads??????

I'm sporting a 12" Powerbook, G4, 1.33 Ghz. Only 256 RAM, but will be upgrading soon. I run it all on a wireless network with the Airport express for the print server.

I truly enjoy multi-tasking so I'm very happy with my AMD Athlon 2600 (2.6 GHz) processor running Win XP on 512 MB of RAM.

Mac OS X (real OS) or Mac OS 9 (pretend OS)?

I've often dreamed of building a linux box just for the hell of it.

Let's just get one thing straight here folks. I started this thread to talk with fellow mac users, not to fan a Mac vs. Pc flame war.

I would *soooooo* like to add a Mac to my 3-Linux-boxes-on-3-different-architectures home network. The minis are calling out to me, but as a hacker I know I wouldn't be satisified with anything less than a dual G5 or a loaded Powerbook.

Sigh. I need wealth.

As a teacher, the portability of the powerbook is wonderful. Between making presentations, research, and grading, it's the single most valuable tool I have.

my comment was meant in good spirit and humor (sorry for no emoticon if that was confused), but i would like to point out that you did refer to someone as "Mr. Windoze"

Windoze? I should really check my spelling before I click submit.

I know your comment was in good spirit and humor, as was my windoze comment and magics multitask commment. I'm fairly new to this forum and didn't want others to think I was trolling. I look at it as some sort of preemtive public relations comment.

Sometimes things should go w/o saying. Sorry for the confusion.

I've been a MacIntosh user since 1987. I actually started with an Apple II and moved to the MacIntosh within about 60-days.

I have an iMac at the office as well as at home. When I bought them I loaded them up with extra RAM and have never looked back.

I stopped using notebook computers back in 2000 and never wish to use them again.

Over the years as well as in our office, we use "WINTEL" hardware and of course software, but I just can't get myself to be permanently in that paradigm.

Sorry Greg, I realize you may be disappointed with me, I still work with OS 9.2.1. I'm sure that's going to change relatively soon though...

No worries. I've supported Mac OS 7.x to current and obviously OS X is far superior than the previous excuse for an OS. You will enjoy it once you make the transition.

Personally, I'm a Windows guy, but have been supporting all post 3.1 versions of Windows as well as Macs for 8+ years. Just starting to get into some Linux support. IMHO, Windows 2000 is the most stable OS I've worked with extensively.

I currently use Windoze for everything. I've used Macs before and love them, so very stable and reliable. I keep telling myself that my next PC will be a Mac, but with Dell popping out full blown systems at $499, I just can't bring myself to spend double the bucks on a Mac. I know you get what you pay for, but with technology progressing so fast I can't justify the extra expense for a machine that will be outdated in 6 months.
