Mt. Watatic, MA

Date Hiked: 09/04

Trails(s) Hiked: Wapack Trail from Route 101

Total Distance: 2 miles

Difficulty: Moderate

Conditions: Rocky trail, mostly cloudy

Special Required Equipment: None

It's a fairly quick but nice hike - the views on top are excellent. The two open ledge peaks help handle the large amount of hikers. The signage uphill is definitely lacking - there are a few spots where I meandered from the trail - I could have easily backtracked and looked harder, but it actually ended up being faster and more peaceful bushwacking.

Judging by the three trip reports, sounds like someone is trying to hike the Wapack Trail like Ms. Trailboss and I did from 2003-2005. It is a nice trail...Stony Top is really cool...as is North Pack from the north. Kidder Mountain is an easy hike with a cool perspective too.

Nope, it was actually coincidence...I had been planning to hike the ski area side of Watatic for a few weeks but couldn't find an easy acces point (saw a few but didn't know if I'd get in a scuffle with the locals)...I was told at Pack that the Wapack trail was a more challenging ascent, so I did that there, and then at Temple I decided to check out the ski area summit, and the Wapack trail seemed like the best bet since I was wearing shorts.
