If I remember from last summer there are a couple of other Met fans in the AlpineZone. Even tho I still read the paper every morning, check the website I know some of you from the NYC area who can watch them on tv every game, have much more news/info about my favorite team since 1962. Hoping you might share that as well as your enthusiasm, opinions in this thread.

I am really stoked for the Mets this year. They have a very strong team and after many "bad" years it's great to see them on top once again.

Will they fizzle or climb the mountain and claim the summit?

I'm a Met fan and very happy with the season thus far. I'm also a Yankee hater.

Well, I'm a Yankee fan but I have no trouble rooting for the Mets to do well. They have certainly been the more exciting team this season and I think in many ways the better team in NY so far. This edition has a knack for dramatic late inning comebacks and late inning/extra inning heroics. Beltran's 16th inning walk off homer earlier this week is the latest excitement.

Omar Minaya is the most underrated GM in baseball. He has improved the team alot. Delgado is the consummate professional hitter; the bullpen is much better although I think Billy Wagner has a few screws missing and I think he is prone to Armando Benitez syndrome in big situations. The starting pitching might be a problem if Glavine and Martinez start to show their age in the Fall. Yesterday's trade for Orlando Hernandez was brilliant. He's old but ageless and is a big game pitcher.

Even though he talks with marbles in his mouth, Willie Randolph is a pro and a good manager who is getting better. I think the team responds to him. And he's an ex-Yank!

The Mets are winning the games they have to. They were only a game ahead of Philly at the start of the recent series in Philly, yet they won a few key games and are now 4 games up. Clutch.

I think they have a legitimate shot at the NL pennant.

Wow, that's an understatement at least so far. I fell asleep the other night reading the play-by-play of the 16th inning battle. BTW reading the play-by-play on the computer kinda sucks and I don't do it too often.
