Just saw on WCAX that Okemo's plans to expand have been improved...including sport center, 100 timeshare condos, and an underground parking garage.

The latter makes it sound like frickin' Stratton.

Last thing Vermont needs is a parking garage, but it is a necessary evil I guess.

They already have an underground parking garage for hotel guests. Strakemo I guess.

Okemo Expansion

Those are the kinds of improvements that don't interest me in the slightest. They invariably cause an increase in ticket prices without making the actual skiing any better. In fact, as is already the case at Stratton, and increasingly so at Okemo. It is getting physically more difficult to get from my car to the lifts. I take that as a sign that they really don't want me to come and actually ski. They want me to sleep, eat, drink, work out, buy overpriced gear, get a seaweed wrap, a massage, and generally leave money behind; oh yes and when I have given them enough money, I can slide around on that nice corduroy (sp?).

it all depends on where they put the garage. parking in some of the lots they have now can be a mightmare.
super long walks or a long bus ride are common if you dont get in the main/first lot. even then if you get in the back of that lot, its a hike and a half.
as far as lift ticket prices go, they are gonna raise them every year regardless of what they do to the place anyway. if any major league area raises their price a buck...every other major area will raise it a buck. lift tiks go up every year regardless of improvements.
can anyone remember a major league mt. dropping their lift price or just keeping the prior year price the same in the past 15 years? coupons and passes dont count. I'm talking walk up price.

Remember the tight margins these ski areas run on, and remember what's happening to energy prices (read: snow making, running snow cats, busses, heating the lodge) and I think that it's easy to envision significant price increases this year.

Many places had already set their prices for this season before the Hurricane. I imagine they will go up a lot next season. :x

As am owner of an S.O.S. weekday pass for this year and not having skied Okemo for over ten yeras, I would rather have had them do something with the layout of Okemo base trail layout.

Then again, that may not be an easy thing to do. That layout with the beginner trails crossing at the bottom is a royal pain in the a**.

Still looking forward to trying their newer Jackson Gore area...

I went there @ the end of last season. Jackson Gore was fabulous. Quantum Leap, Upper/Lower Limelight, and even Tuckered Out were lots of fun. The drop-in to Quantum Leap is prety impressive, the rest of the run is great carving. Limelight curves around a bit, a few parts steeper than others. Tuckered out actually has a few great hair-pin turns.

We were there with a group. I'll go back with like-minded folks and spend more time in JG.
