A very interesting read:

In a nutshell, for a long time Patagonia and other brands have been requiring manufacturers to meet certain environmental and labor standards. Well, they only imposed those on their immediate suppliers in the chain and "implied" that the standards would be imposed down the chain. Guess what? They were not. Patagonia discovered that "second" and "third" tier suppliers were doing some pretty egregious things with their workers. So Patagonia is now rethinking its enforcement of policy and digging deeper.

Are these corporations just figuring out now why the labor and other costs of overseas manufacturing are so much less than domestic labor?? Seems like they were putting their heads in the sand, no?
