Made even sadder because it was intentionally set off as avalanche control work.

I remember 3 ski patrollers died in one accident at Mammoth in 2006 when I lived in California, they were roping off a geothermal vent when the snow gave way and they fell in. It wasn't the fall that killed them either, it was the concentration of gasses. Very sad
