I just discovered how many videos, both ametuer and pro, there are of pianists on youtube.

I love wasting time watching them. It really is unbelievable the works people can play. Everything on there from Horowitz to Evgeny Kissin.

Some of my favorites:

Kissin plays Beethoven's Rage Over a Lost Penny

Kissin plays La Campanella

Horowitz plays Chopin's Polonaise Op 53

Horowitz plays Chopin's Ballade No. 1

Hamelin plays Liszt, 2nd Hungarian Rhapsody

Hamelin plays Rachmaninoff's Sonata No. 2, 1st mov.

Is that Horowitz as in David Horowitz the host of "Fight Back?"

Aaaaaah, no.

That would be Horowitz, as in Vladimir Horowitz, one of the most renowned piano virtousi of the 20st century. Critics yes, but then some compared his playing with the likes of even Rachmaninoff himself.

Obviously everyone is astounded that I have a bit of culture.

And not the kind growing in my month old milk jug in the fridge, either.

No Paderewski?

Ah relax, I've already got two links to pieces by Poland's favorite son.

Seeing as how Chopin was the only good thing to ever come out of Poland. Besides the vodka and the women of course. And the food. And my grandfather.

Ok so it's not that bad. Are you sure you're Polish, Andy?

Ouch, not even the late John Paul II gets in the list?

Unless... is he your grandfather?

My mother dragged me to see him at the Westbury Music Fair when I was a kid. My first concert ever. He was really good though.

I went on a school trip once and saw him. I was in elementary school back then and wasn't into his kind of music, but I walked away really impressed. This guy was an excellent performer and piano player!!!!
