Sugarloaf is cutting a new trail for next season and took this picture of the mountain for their website, but look at all the snow still left on the mountain:-o

Actually it is being cut somewhere on the West Mountain area. There was no offical announcement, so it's anyone's guess as to what, where and how long the new trail will be.

Sugarloaf was originally supposed to close on the 23rd, looks like they could easily make that.

You sure that is a trail? Especially given ASC's precarious financial situation. I would have assumed that they would have blitzed us with press releases about this new trail considering that last season we got blitzed when they replaced the carpet in a lodge or two

Or fixing the broken urinal in the Sugarloaf baselodge:lol:

Seriously, the picture caption simply says "something new for the 06/07 season".

Wow, don't give away all of the secrets of the new trail all at once now do we?:-?

You used that one too

I missed it, but they all looked pretty decrepit.

Dave, are you still planning to try to get to Killington before they close? I would take a day trip up next week if they survive the forecasted 1-1.5" or rain this weekend.

I don't think so...any normal spring I would but after this rain I think the conditions are going to be real bad.

Thats what I am thinking, but it is hard to let go of skiing in April. If they survive, I will probably go up for the day on tuesday/wednesday.

While I am glad that I got to ski at Sugarloaf last weekend, it got me really bummed out to come back to a green Long Island. I have to admit that this early spring is somewhat depressing for me.

Nancy and I are debating weather or not Killington will be opened past this sunday, certainly they have been open with worse conditions in the past.

My guess is that this is a new access trail to the condos being built up to the right of the Stupid Quad.

The view is up at Skidder, which you wouldn't be able to see from the West Mountain area from that angle.

Actually that I'm not even sure of on closer look. The view is from the skiers left of Skidder, so perhaps its a new run to between Candy Side and Sheer Boom.

Whatever it is it can't be anywhere on West Mountain from that angle

I thought that the area to the right of the Superquad would be considered West Mountain? or working in that direction anyway. So I guess the new trail will not add up to much except to provide easy ski on/off access for all the new condo's being built on the mountain?

I was amazed at the amount of new condo's/townhomes being built on the access road during my visit last weekend.

Maine is a beautiful state I miss it already.
