Porsche has made it official that they will go ahead with the 'hostile' takeover of Volkswagen Automotive Group, which means they get all the other brands like:
- VW
- Audi
- Lambo
- Bugatti
- Seat
- Skoda

Of course Porsche and VW have been pretty close partners, sharing tech and platforms for since the 1930s or something. Still, it is pretty amazing to see a small boutique, low volume sports car maker (please ignore the Cayenne :)) take over a beast like VAG. Employees: VAG 324,000 Porsche 12,000... pretty impressive.

Rumor is they will immediately kill Bugatti, shake up Lambo, possibly kill the A3, and I am sure many more other changes are in store. Should be interesting - I would love to see some Prosche engineering wizardry trickle down into cheapo VWs. Improvement in reliability would be nice too.

Not sure how you can use reliability and VW in the same paragraph

Correction:
"Reduction in unreliability would be nice too." ... better?

I hope Porsche knows what its doing. Big automotive mergers haven't been all that successful in recent history days, especially those involving German manufacturers. The Benz/Crysler clusterf__k comes to mind.

Wonder what kind of changes they will be making to Lambo.

How about a price reduction so I can afford one lol...

VW's are the worst for breaking stuff, Audi not far behind. But for some reason the Diesel VW's seem to hold together pretty well.

If I were Porsche, I would keep Bugatti around and kill Lambo. Lambos and the 911 seem to overlap more than the Veyron and 911. Lambos to me are second tier exotics, regularly trounced by Ferrari and Porsche.

This one will go to court, I'm sure. Porsche has been trying to pull this off for a while now.
I hope they don't kill Bugatti. Such a venerable, classic brand. Skoda, on the other hand...

You had a scirocco? Cool, I had a buddy that had one. Fun car, I didn't fit in the driver's seat too well though. VW and Porsche have shared tech and components more than some people think.

yeah - a 1985.... I loved it... Great in the snow but not good for drumsets...
Gotta love those Ricaro seats....

Sold it to a friend that complained it had no power....
Turns out - he didn't know how to shift... :)

My buddy had an 87 with the 16V motor. I did love the Recaros, very similar to the ones I had in my GTI. I can see how it wouldn't work out too well for carrying a drum set though.

That's one thing I've found about VW's, they like to be shifted a bit more 'spiritedly' than some other cars. ;)

Doors seizing? I've heard of the latch mechanism freezing in the winter so the door wouldn't shut, or the handle freezing so the door wouldn't open (actually had that happen on a Passat which had different handles than Jettas), but never heard of the door seizing. What do you mean by that??

I am not automotive industry guru, but I think Porsche might focus on growing the Audi brand and going after BMW even harder than VW has. Audi has much better profit margins than VW and is closer to what Porsche has experience with - performance, luxury and image. VW, SEAT and Skoda will be a good bread and butter type of brand, but the growth might come from Audi. Making Lambo and Bugatti a big money maker will be tough.
