Hello all, our second ski day of our honeymoon here in Zermatt, and after a self guided day 1, today we ski with a guide starting at 10 am. We just found out that our guide is the hotelier of the swankier-than-we-are-used-to resort where we are staying. I believe the custom with ski guides is to pay for their lunch, and even though he is the hotelier, we plan to do this. But we are not sure if we should tip him as well. Does anyone have any advice, keeping in mind his status as the hotelier (I'm not even sure what that means, ie whether he is he owner, or just the GM, or both, or what).

Thanks!

hotelier, is usually the hotel manager. Customary guidelines is appropriate (20%). However, the more generous you are, will usually come back to you in the form of great service, priority seating, favors ect. Haven't been to Zermatt in many years. It is truly one of the most beautiful places I have been to. What a wonderful place for your honeymoon.
